Stewarding/work party at Catalina Park in West University neighborhood, Tucson, Arizona

WHEN: 6am, Friday, July 10, 2026. We will finish by 9am, likely sooner.

WHERE: Rain gardens on the North side of Catalina Park, 941 N. 4th Avenue, Tucson, Arizona

Brad Lancaster will teach and supervise at this hands-on stewarding/work party in the rain gardens in the public rights-of-way on the periphery of the park.

This is in coordination with the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department and the West University Neighborhood Foresters.

We will cover plant identification to better identify desired native plants and undesired non-native invasive plants. We will then remove non-native invasive plants, and seed with more desired natives.

We will also cover proper pruning techniques that enhance, rather than worsen plant health, while maintaining clear access for pedestrians on public sidewalks/pathways.

We’ll also pick up litter.

Parks and recreation staff will remove the prunings.

This will be preparation for another stewarding/work party on Sunday, August 2 when we will clear stormwater inlets at, and invasive non-native plants from, the street-side stormwater harvesting basins on the SOUTH side of the park.

Bring water, pruning tools, shovels, and gloves if you have them.
If not, we’ll have extra tools on hand for you to use.
